3. ABBREVIATED CURRICULUM
The course will encompass an introduction to the "metadata" schemes, transmission norms and other factors that have to be explored to plan and organize metadata for a digital project.
4. COURSE OBJECTIVES

Introduce catalogers and other librarians to new kinds of resources and its characteristics.

Introduce catalogers and other librarians to select and evaluate strategies and different standards to improve digital projects and offer access to the resources .

Inspire catalogers to think in creative ways and collaborate with others or within their own or other institutions .

Enable catalogers and other librarians to investigate and explore by their own means, new library technologies ; and opportunities to participate in similar projects originated in other institutions.

To inspire catalogers and other librarians to embrace new digital information technologies, so they can continue occupying a vital role in the development of library services.
5. OFFERED TO :
The workshop is designed for people that have basic knowledge of cataloging using MARC 21, and for those who wish to have an introduction to the "new field of metadata". Even thou the participants don't have to be catalogers , but it is desired they be familiar with the field of work. Our aim is to give a basic presentation that serves as a starting point for the participants to begin their own investigations ; and for those who have experience in digital projects the material will be very basic and simple.

7. COURSE CONTENTS .
The program includes the following:
Session 1: Introduction and preliminary considerations on models and relations.
Session 3: Metadata specific standards/formats
Session 4: Inter operability and distribution
Session 5: Vocabularies
Session 6: Quality control and documentation
8. METODOLOGY USED.
Power Point presentation of the material, plus examination of projects on the Internet.
9. LIMIT : 30 participants.
10. DURATION : 8 hours.
